What is ACL Reconstruction?
ACL reconstruction is a keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery done to restore stability of the knee after an ACL tear. The torn ligament is replaced with a tendon graft, commonly taken from the patient’s own hamstring or peroneus tendon.
Post-Operative Rehabilitation
0–2 Weeks
- Knee brace with walking
- Partial → full weight bearing as tolerated
- Range of motion: 0–90°
- Ice therapy, swelling control
- Quadriceps activation exercises
2–6 Weeks
- Full weight bearing
- Gradual increase in knee bending
- Stationary cycling
- Closed-chain strengthening
6–12 Weeks
- Strengthening and balance training
- Light jogging (after 10–12 weeks)
4–6 Months
- Sport-specific drills
- Return to sports under guidance
